Welcome!
This website was constructed by graduate students as part of a class project. The University of Iowa Graduate Students in the Occupational and Environmental Health program have generated resources to help our expanding "work from home" community during the Spring 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Recommendations and answers to frequently asked questions have been reviewed by experts to ensure recommendations are sound.
The goal of this project is to develop and distribute information to the new (and greatly expanded) cohort of people working from home. For this project, students have been asked to work with a client (that's you) to develop useful safety guidance in the workplace. The course instructor and experts around the University and beyond will be review and provide guidance so that the FINAL materials developed are data driven and based in best-practice.
Topic categories that students have explored include:
- Chemical safety at home
- Electrical safety at the home office
- Home ergonomics
- Essential worker safety
- Mental health in our new work from home environment
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- "For Kids" guidance on safety now that kids are now isolated in homes
You can navigate through these topics, as well as checking out some of the public safety announcments (PSAs) developed by classmates, through the tabs at the upper right of these pages.
How were topics identified?
Students responded to questions coming in from the greater community via a group email account (workfromhome.occsafety@gmail.com).
Future?
This web site is now complete for the class project for Spring 2020. Let us know if you want more information, and we can see if students (who are kind of bored this summer) want to continue updating the site to help answer your questions. Use the same gmail address to let us know.
THANKS FOR STOPPING BY!
